I believe that we struggle when elements of our life are out of balance, and we can think, feel, or act in extremes. To regain balance we need to have a place to freely speak and be heard, find a fresh perspective, and explore why things are the way they are. It is an honor to be able to listen to clients' struggles and offer empathy, support, and help. I see my role as counselor as collaborative, where we can explore changes you would like to make and discover how best you can enact those changes, and be encouraged to reconnect with yourself.
Prior to counseling I spent 20 years in education and as a professional musician. This background serves me well as it honed and refined my listening and collaboration skills. As well, the joys and challenges of marriage and raising two children continue to inform my ability to offer clients an understanding of many family and relationship situations and struggles. The origins of my path to counseling stem from losing my brother at a young age and finding help and healing with a counselor. While being an educator I realized that the part of teaching that I found most rewarding was providing encouragement and a positive experience beyond the subject matter itself, which made a transition to the field of mental health a natural choice.
I hold a master's degree in counseling from the University of North Texas and have been practicing for 5 years. Along with my wife of 24 years, I am the proud parent of a teenage son and a daughter who is off experiencing college.
I hope I can be helpful to you in your journey towards personal growth.
